Major river rescue tackles fly-tipping hotspot

This is a radio package about a small army of volunteers clearing up years worth of cannabis waste/fly-tipping from a Sheffield river, Redcar Brook.

I spoke to Sheffield Litter Pickers, the Sheaf and Porter Rivers Trust, and Cllr Joe Otten (Chair of the Waste and Street Scene Policy Committee).

The clean up was able to happen now because the council finally put up a 2 meter tall fence at the Brook to deter fly-tippers. But volunteers told me that fly-tipping has been an ongoing issue for years.

Visually this is a very powerful story and works well for TV, but because ITV Calendar were there too I wanted to do a different treatment.

Warning: QR code scams found on Sheffield parking meters

In a statement to the Sheffield Wire, a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said, “The ease and convenience of QR codes has led to some cybercriminals tricking innocent people into visiting fraudulent websites where they may make unauthorised payments for app downloads or parking fees.

“Although uncommon, it is vital that when you scan a QR code you are aware of the risks and are able to recognise signs of frauds.”
